- Witch Hazels are a genus of flowering plants in the family Hamamelidaceae, with four species in North America, and one each in Japan and China.  
- A plant with woody stems and quite an unusual looking flower.  
- Because most varieties flower in winter, they aren't pollinated by the usual suspects, but in fact by moths!  
- One of its nicknames being 'winterbloom', it is a winter flowering shrub with many medicinal properties. The bark extract is used to aid everything from eczema to acne.
